Dear Students,

The last day to ILL books, DVDs, and VHS was Friday May 4th. You may continue to make article requests through the end of the semester.

All ILL material not due before May 14th must be returned by May 14th. If for any reason you need the material beyond this date you MUST contact me so we can make alternate arrangements. Any material not returned by this date, without prior permission, are subject to a non-refundable fine of $100. per item plus replacement costs.

RE: Residential Closing Procedures and Important information

I. 24 Hour quiet hours in the residence halls and Final Exams

The last day of classes is Friday, May 11 and Study Period runs from Saturday, May 12 until Monday, May 14. Final exams begin on Tuesday, May 15 and end on May 18.

Twenty-four Hour Quiet Hours are in effect in all residence halls including Fairlane Apartments, and Mandell House beginning at 9pm on Friday, May 11 and ending at 9am on Saturday, May 19. Noise levels should be kept to a minimum in all residence halls during STUDY PERIOD, including electronic media (music, television, video games, computer applications, verbal communication and gatherings in various hallways. The 24 quiet hour rule also applies to Wells College parking lots, sidewalks etc adjacent to residence halls.

II. Non-commencement student departure

All students who do not have obligations related to Senior Week and/or Commencement are required to check out of their room assignments within 24 hours of their last final exam or academic obligation.

III. Senior week / commencement obligations

Senior Week:

Senior Week takes place from May 19 to 26 and consists of a number of activities and traditions planned by the Class of 2012. Seniors are permitted to remain in their residence hall room assignments throughout Senior Week, until 5:00pm on Saturday, May 26, 2012.

Senior Guests:

The guests of seniors MUST move out of their residence hall room assignment no later than Noon on May 19 and promptly move in with his/her senior host.

Each senior may host one guest in her/his room during Senior Week. Seniors must complete a registration form indicating the name and contact information about their guest. This process is coordinated by the Class of 2012 officers. Non-Wells student guests must carry photo identification at all times; ID must be provided upon request by campus officials, including but not limited to Administrators, Campus Safety Officers, DOS Office personnel, Hall Directors, and Resident Advisors. Seniors are responsible for their guests at all times throughout their stay. All seniors and their guests are responsible for following the policies and procedures listed in the Community Handbook, specifically the Code of Conduct, Honor Code and Community Standards Statement

IV. Departure after the commencement ceremony

V. Student employment and other commencement obligations

Students working on campus during Senior Week and Commencement must be approved by their on-campus employer, and must be registered with the Office of Residence Life and Learning Communities. Class of 2012 officers, Collegiate Cabinet, and the 2011-12 Community Court will also be approved to remain on campus based on their role during Commencement.

Students who have been approved to work on campus, or are otherwise approved to remain on campus during Senior Week and Commencement will be permitted to remain in their residence hall assignments until 5pm on Saturday, May 26.

VI. Requests to stay Late

Students may submit a Request to Stay Late Form to the Office of Residence Life and Learning Communities if they would like to remain on campus beyond the 24 hour deadline after their last final. Students must provide a reason for needing to remain on campus. All requests will be reviewed and either approved or denied by the Office of Residence Life and Learning Communities in consultation with the Provost’s Office.

The latest a student may request to extend their stay on campus is 5pm on Sunday, May 20.

Request to Stay Late Forms are available on the Residence Life section of The Globe and must be submitted no later than May 15 at 5pm.

VII. Check-out procedures

All residents are expected to submit their departure information to their Resident Advisors by May 12:

· Date and time of last final

· Date and time of departure

Your Resident Advisor will post a sheet for students to indicate the above information. Please ask your RA(s) about it.

Each set of roommates, and each resident living in a single room, will receive a Closing Checklist to be used to keep track of all tasks to be completed prior to departure:

§ Students must collect/pack all of their belongings

§ Move all furniture to their original configuration

§ Sweep the floors

§ Remove all trash from the room

§ Leave curtains and/or shades open, except for first floor residents

§ Bring the room back to the original condition when you moved in to it

§ Turn off lights

§ Close and lock door

Students can borrow brooms from the Housekeeping staff. Failure to sweep or remove trash may result in an excessive cleaning fee.

When ready to check out, students must let their Resident Advisor (or any Resident Advisor) know and check their rooms. Students may be assessed fees associated with damage to the residence hall room, including a cleaning fee for excessive messes. Students will also be billed for any furniture missing from their room assignments.

All personal items must be removed from community kitchens prior to student departure. Items left behind in community kitchens will be discarded.

Students must return the key(s) to their room assignments to the Department of Campus Safety or their Resident Advisor. Failure to return room keys will result in a $50.00 fine billed to your account. Keys may only be returned in person, and will not be accepted through mail.

VIII. Possible fines:

· Key Replacement: $50.00

· Room Damages: Individually Assessed

· Excessive Cleaning: Individually Assessed

· Missing Furniture: Individually Assessed

IX. Abandoned Property:

Students must remove ALL of their belongings from their room assignment before checking out for the year. Items left behind will be discarded. Any items left in other spaces on campus (floor lounges, basements, laundry rooms, closets, etc) will also be discarded. Students wishing to donate items can place them in labeled containers and boxes located throughout the residence halls.

If you accidentally leave property behind, we will do our very best to help you locate your belongings; however, Wells College employees are neither responsible nor obligated to locate any property you may leave behind accidentally or othewise.

X. Storage:

Wells College does not offer storage space for local students’ belongings at this time.

A very limited amount of space is available for International Students. International Students should email residencelife to submit a request for storage space.

Students may be interested in renting storage units from one of several local companies:

Additional businesses may be located by searching the internet or consulting the local yellow pages. Students may wish to make arrangements with friends to share storage units and split the cost. Students should make arrangements directly with storage companies.

XI. Mail forwarding:

The Wells College Mail Center offers mail forwarding for seniors only. Seniors should contact the Mail Center staff and provide a forwarding address. Mail for seniors will be forwarded until September 1, 2012.

All students should arrange to update their summer mailing addresses with the necessary parties (magazines, billing agents, family, friends, etc.).

Students should direct questions to Mail Center staff, or call 315-364-3371.

XII. Email access:

Graduating seniors will continue to have access to their “wells.edu” e-mail accounts until January 31, 2013. On February 1st, the e-mail accounts of graduating seniors will be turned off. We strongly encourage you to share an alternate e-mail address with us by e-mailing alumoffice@wells.edu. We will keep your alternate e-mail address on file so we can continue to communicate with all of our alums.

Remember that as an alum, you will have continued access to The Globe. Please be sure to log in and click on the Alumns and Friends tab to stay in touch with Wells and update your information.

XIII. Transportation:

Students should consult the Transportation section of The Globe website for information regarding year-end van runs. Students can also email transportation or call 315-364-3229 / 3370 for specific requests.

XIV. Timeline for year-end closing events:

Friday, May 11 Last Day of classes and 24 hour quiet hours begin at 9pm

Saturday, May 12 Study Break begins & Departure Information due to RAs (sign up sheet)

Tuesday, May 13 RAs begin distributing two Closing Checklists per room

Tuesday, May 15 Request to Stay Late Forms due to Residence Life & Learning Communities by 5pm

Tuesday, May 15 Final examinations begin

Sunday, May 19 Residence Hall closing (all non-commencement students must check out by 5pm)

Saturday, May 19 Senior Week begins

Saturday, May 26 Wells College Commencement, 10:00am (All graduates, guests and commencement-related residents must check out by 5pm)

housing accommodations for family members for
Commencement.

Dear Class of 2012,

The deadline for Housing accommodations for Commencement
Weekend was today, May 7th. We have extended the deadline
to Friday, May 11. If you will need overnight
accommodations for family members for commencement weekend
please be sure to submit the reservation form and payment
to Phyllis Siemiatkowski, Assistant for Academic and
Student Life, Macmillan 210. The reservation form can be
found on the website. Go to
http://www.wells.edu/student-life , click on Commencement
2012 and then click on Accommodations. The cost of all
accommodations is $25 per person, per night. Payment in
full should be submitted at the time the reservations are
made. Cancellations will be accepted and refunds made up
to May 21. No refunds will be made after that.

2. Advanced Nonfiction Class to do readings

On Tuesday at 7:00 in the Art Exhibit Room, members of
this year’s Advanced Nonfiction class will read from their
work.

Come hear some of the best student prose writing this year
on a wide range of subjects, serious and humorous, and in
a variety of styles and voices. It’s a great way to
celebrate the end of the term!

ways to manage anxiety and participate in some activities.

Come learn about depression! This workshop will review the
statistics, treatment, management, and symptoms of
depression. There will also be a depression myth and fact
session.

Tea-Stress 2:45-3:15, AER
Come during Tea-Time to the AER to relax before finals
week. We will be practicing deep-breathing exercises,
muscle relaxation techniques as well as visualization
techniques.

Ever wanted to know what it’s really like to have a

Join us for this special Take Back the Mic centered around
psychological stigma. Perform a poetry reading, literature
reading, dance, or song influenced by mental disorders,

The Wells College Commencement ceremony celebrates the culmination of your academic work at Wells. In order to participate in the Commencement Ceremony you will be required to have full regalia. In addition to the cap and gown you will also need to rent the Wells College hood. The hood is unique to Wells and cannot be ordered from another source. You will not receive the hood with your regalia – the hood is presented to you during the Commencement ceremony.

The Tiffany Sunday Concert Series will present a benefit concert on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2pm, Willard Memorial Chapel, 17 Nelson St. Auburn. Featured performers are former Wells College Music professor, Nancy Gilbertson, and her husband Kim who will share the bench and offer
a program of piano duets by Ravel, Debussy, Moszkowski and Thea Musgrave. Also included will be a Latin style rag by Brian Dykstra and some surprise variations by Randall Compton. NY Donation $10/person

Room Draw

Hello,

Room draw for 2012-13 academic year for returning students will take place on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 beginning at 8:30 p.m. in the dining hall. Most students who participated in number draw are eligible to select his/her room tomorrow night.

The following categories of students are NOT eligible to participate in room draw tomorrow night.

  • Students who already have a housing assignment (i.e. triple, quad, special interest housing)
  • Students scheduled to participate in study abroad in the fall. (this list is generated by the Coordinator of Off-Campus Study)
  • Students who did not obtain a number during “number draw” phase of the housing selection process.

If an eligible student is unable to attend room draw due to a prior commitment, s/he may designate a proxy to select a room on his/her behalf by e-mailing the housing committee (housing).

The tentative schedule for tomorrow night is as follows:

  • Rising seniors (from 8:30 to 8:50)
  • Rising Juniors (from 8:50 to 9:10)
  • Rising Sophomores (from 9:10 to 9:30)
  • The “last group” (from 9:30 to 10)

Students interested in participating in room draw are highly encouraged to attend about 10 minutes prior to their scheduled room draw time.
