2. Dear Students,

This coming Thursday, Wells College is hosting "The Hot Club of San Francisco", a group whose name doesn’t really reflect what they do. Yes, they are a swing music band, but they also use their musical talents to accompany silent films. If you want to experience a re-creation of the early days of cinema, this is an event you shouldn’t miss.

The Hot Club of San Francisco will also give a hands-on demonstration workshop between 1:30 and 4:00 in the AER. I know some of you have seminar at that time, but if you don’t, think about attending. I promise it will be quite cool. If you are enrolled in one of Professor Lohn’s classes, she has found some ways to make it well worth your while.

If you are interested in how film became part of popular culture, or how movies influenced those in rural areas, far outside the reach of picture palaces, this workshop will give you an insight you simply cannot achieve by watching unaccompanied silent film.

Join us for the workshop at 1:30 and the performance at 7:30. Want to know a bit more?-follow this link: http://www.wells.edu/events/2013/hotclubofsanfrancisco.aspx

Thanks,

Professor Lohn

1. Dear Students,

DON’T MISS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY!

EXCITING CHANCE TO WORK WITH LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR AND EDUCATOR!

BE PART OF A TEAM, LEARN HANDS-ON AND BE PART OF THE BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITON IN APRIL!

Wells College has teamed up with local entrepreneurs Jon Greene and Brad Treat for a tutorial focused on transforming a great idea for a new business or social enterprise into an actionable start-up plan. This class will follow renowned entrepreneur and educator Steven Blank’s Lean Launchpad curriculum. Instructors and students will work together in intensive one-hour sessions with additional work in teams outside of the classroom. Key elements of learning will include basic venture ideation, identifying a solid value proposition, and articulating your vision in print and presentations. The class will culminate in the annual Wells College business plan competition in April. While you don’t have to take the class to participate in the business plan competition, students are encouraged to do so. There will be a regular class meeting time, but there is flexibility for students who have conflicts.

Please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible, cspeaker and feel free to contact Jon with any questions (jongreene).

Best,

Dr. Speaker
